Cozy Elegance in a Heritage Victorian Home

I've given my own master bedroom a makeover with gilded alcoves that speak of grandeur and luxury, perfectly complementing the heritage decor of the house.

The Magnolia Tree and Cherry Blossom Murals

Among the most captivating features of this room are the hand-painted magnolia tree and cherry blossom murals in the alcoves on either side of the fireplace. I draw inspiration from hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpapers, adding a touch of nature's beauty to the Victorian setting.

The gilded background

For the background of the alcove murals, I used Italian Dutch metal leaf, a form of imitation gold leaf which is more affordable and allows for acid patina effects. This allows me to tone down the shine of the gold to achieve a more subtle metallic finish.

Embracing the Victorian Spirit

The fusion of brown hues, gilded accents, and nature-inspired murals creates a harmonious blend that transports you back to the Victorian era, underpinned by black gloss woodwork inspired by Gothic Victorian design specifically.

In a world where trends come and go, I prefer heritage design. Its seamless integration of classic elements like the original cast iron fireplace and tiles, with modern items like my hand-painted artwork, showcases the beauty of embracing heritage in a contemporary setting.

The brown painted walls (in Little Greene light bronze green) and ceiling (in Little Greene bath stone) paired with antique furniture that I have thrifted locally, gilded alcoves, and hand-painted murals serve as a reminder that true elegance transcends fleeting fads.

Let the Heritage Inspire You

I work predominantly in the UK but do take inquiries for international work. Embrace the richness of history and the artistry of nature, creating a sanctuary that resonates with the elegance of a bygone era.
